Firefighters rescued a mother and her son from a fire that erupted at a home in Boyle Heights early Wednesday morning, according to authorities and local news reports.

The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) received a call reporting smoke rising from a nearby house around 5:07 a.m., and dispatched 46 firefighters to 412 Lorena St., the LAFD said.

Authorities said two people, 65 and 45 years old, who KTLA described as a mother and son, were initially trapped inside the home and had to be rescued by firefighters.

By 5:30 a.m., firefighters had knocked down most of the flames. Video footage on the Citizen app captured police and firefighters attending to the rising smoke from the damaged home. The LAFD reported that firefighters set up fans to clear out smoke.

The two people rescued from the fire received medical assistance onsite after declining to be taken to a hospital.

Fire officials also confirmed that no one else was inside the burning home. A back house on the property with three occupants was not damaged in the fire. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
