Supported by the award-winning Documenters Network by City Bureau, we recruit, train and pay Los Angeles residents to document local government meetings. We cover the under-covered meetings that oftentimes are inaccessible to the people of LA. It’s open to anyone and everyone that is either interested in civic engagement, journalism, or simply curious.

Public meetings: The what and the why

Public meetings are places where key decisions are made that directly impact local residents. Whether it’s a city council, school board, or neighborhood council meeting, the majority of them take hours and happen when most people are at work.
This creates an information gap between local government and the people it’s meant to serve. Documenters is here to close that gap by training and paying the same residents affected by these decisions.
Pay: Trained Documenters are paid between $18/hr – $25/hr, depending on experience and location.
