Jordan Brand's NBA All-Star Weekend pop-up in downtown Inglewood won't be coming down until at least June. Isaiah Murtaugh/The LA Local

The Jordan Brand tent that went up in downtown Inglewood for NBA All-Star Weekend isn’t coming down any time soon.

The structure at 106 E. Manchester Blvd. houses a full hardwood basketball court and will be around until at least mid-June, serving part-time as a home court for Inglewood High School’s basketball teams.

“It’s an amazing opportunity for the kids. It’s a good thing for the school district,” said James Morris, the school district’s county administrator.

The structure is not currently open to the public. During All-Star Weekend, it hosted a swap meet, a movie screening and a community basketball clinic.

Kenlyn Tyree, a Jordan spokesperson, said in an email the company is exploring ways to extend its presence in Inglewood, in partnership with locals.

Think True, LLC, the marketing firm responsible for the project, isn’t paying rent for the downtown Inglewood property, according to a lease agreement. Instead, the firm covered demolition costs for the campus and construction costs for the facility.

The lease agreement also allows the school district to decide if and when this lease does end, if they want to keep the structure or have it removed.

Morris said the lease could be extended with mega-events, including this summer’s FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Olympics coming to Inglewood.

The structure is on the former site of the Inglewood Adult School, which shuttered in 2022. It took less than two months for crews to demolish the campus and construct the sleek black Jumpman-branded event tent in its place.

My background: I spent my early years in downtown Los Angeles and lived the last decade between Pico Union and University Park. Before journalism, I spent stints as an after-school tutor and a housing social worker. I’ve covered immigration, religion, housing, local government and a little bit of everything else for outlets in Los Angeles and beyond.

What I do: I keep an eye on local institutions — like city governments, police departments and school boards — and an ear to the ground for the good, the bad and the weird things going on in South LA and Inglewood. I tell you what I find out on our website, in our newsletter and on social media.

Why LA?: This place is home. I love the people, the cultures, the hills and the Pacific Ocean.
