A water main break flooded the streets of Westlake early Thursday morning and left residents in the neighborhood without water for the day.
The issue was first reported around 3:30 a.m. according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, and impacted about a dozen customers in the neighborhood.
Repairs crews were able to shut down the flow of water at Beverly and Occidental boulevards, but not before the area was flooded with murky, brown water. Video from news station KTLA showed people carrying their belongings from sidewalk encampments in flowing streams of water.
Robert Navarrate lives in an apartment near the water main and said that he did not have water in his home as of 1:30 p.m. He said there was no word from the utility company about when the water would be turned back on.
Crews remained on the site throughout the day to assess the damage, according to LADWP spokesperson Lesly Figueroa. Beverly Boulevard remained closed as LADWP crews dug a hole into the street and cleared away the water.
Water service was restored to the neighborhood by 4 p.m. according to the utility company and the road work was expected to be completed soon.
