Nuestra Voz/Our Voice, a bilingual parent advocacy group, has called for Alberto Carvalho to be reinstated as the Los Angeles Unified School District’s superintendent, emphasizing the support he provided to Latino, immigrant and undocumented families.

Carvalho was placed on administrative leave after the FBI raided his home and the district’s office.

“Superintendent Carvalho demonstrated strong leadership during his tenure, implementing an open-door policy with parents and guardians and facilitating open dialogues with parents from all backgrounds,” the group said in a letter to Acting Superintendent Andres Chait and members of LAUSD’s school board. “The positive impact this communication and support has provided for undocumented and mixed-status families cannot be overstated.”

In the meantime, the group also called on Chait to ensure that same support. He has vowed to do so, including at Tuesday’s board meeting.

“Nothing has changed or will change during my time as acting superintendent in terms of our support of our immigrant communities,” Chait said Tuesday. “Nothing has changed. Nothing will change. We stand with you.”
