The Los Angeles Police Department identified the man fatally shot by officers in Exposition Park last week as well as the six officers involved in the shooting, according to a press release from the department.
Police said the man’s name is Holman Gomez, 39. The County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s report names the individual killed as Omar Gomez. A spokesperson for the medical examiner’s office told The LA Local the department is working to confirm the correct name.
On Monday, the police department identified the officers involved as Mark Dainty, Bryan Ponce, Isaac Gonzalez, Jose Solorzano, Diego Bracamontes and Woodrow Wheat.
The latest update comes after Thursday’s shooting where police officers responded to the area near the California Science Center after a motorcycle cop spotted a man carrying an apparent rifle near Figueroa Street and State Drive.
Police later recovered an air rifle at the scene, according to the release.
Officers at first spoke with Gomez as he sat on a bench behind the science center, and then opened fire after he stood and pointed the weapon in the direction of officers, according to the release.
Gomez collapsed after being shot and was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics.
Gomez died of multiple gunshot wounds and had no significant medical conditions, according to the county medical examiner.
Police said information available to date is based on preliminary investigations and that understanding of the circumstances around the shooting may change with additional evidence.
