My background: I moved from the Bay Area to SoCal for college about a decade ago and haven’t looked back (although all of my sports teams are rooted in the Bay). After seven years at various new outlets in San Diego and New Mexico, I joined the Long Beach Post two years ago. I live in Downtown Long Beach with my girlfriend and our dog Lenny, where my bike commute to the office is about 5 minutes.
What I do: I write about public safety, which includes everything from sifting through data on road safety to telling the human stories where crime, enforcement, and community intersect. That means interviewing victims at a courthouse or crime scene, but also tracking down records and sifting through court documents. It’s a constant reminder that the people behind these stories are my neighbors. I also write and curate the weekly Eat.See.Do. newsletter and always welcome recommendations.
Why Long Beach: Although I’m still getting to know Long Beach, the most rewarding part has been meeting so many people who are passionate about this city. It doesn’t take long for Long Beach to hook you. And once it does, it doesn’t let go. I’m grateful for the opportunity to tell people more about it.
