Jazmyn De Jesus, Community Engagement Manager
My background: Originally from the Inland Empire and having moved around SoCal a lot growing up, I learned to adapt and adjust to the neighborhoods I was a part of quickly. I have lived in Long Beach for nearly 5 years now, and cannot imagine developing professionally, creatively, or emotionally anywhere else as a young adult. As a student journalist throughout high school, community college and my time at Cal State Long Beach, I developed an appreciation for local news and a passion for building community and accurately representing its residents.
What I do: I assist our organization’s community engagement efforts, focusing specifically on the Long Beach area. The Long Beach Post, Long Beach Business Journal and I collaborate on how to take the The LA Local’s engagement approach and apply it to this city in a way that honors the amazing efforts already being made by residents.
Why Long Beach: Long Beach is a city with such a rich blend of art and culture that has felt so welcoming and neighborly even when I visited growing up. It is a city that I feel has allowed me to come into my own and meet some of the most important people in my life, and I want to continue to grow roots here and be an active community member.
