Lisa Kwon, Student Journalism Mentor

My background: I am a journalist and writer born and based in Los Angeles. I enjoy writing about the 20th-century diasporic movements that have made this city one of the most culturally diverse areas in California. I have contributed to The Guardian, Teen Vogue, Vulture, Eater, Vice, Cultured Magazine, National Geographic, and many more.

What I do: I am a mentor for the Koreatown cohort of the LA Local Student Journalism program, where I teach high school students how to write profiles and feature stories about issues and trends in Koreatown and neighboring areas.

Why LA:  LA opens itself up to those endlessly curious about the city beyond its stereotypes. I will always cherish LA for the rich variety of bird species that migrate through here in the spring time and the comforting plates of jajangmyeon and tangsuyuk in Koreatown.
