Mayra Sandoval, Development Manager
My background: I was born and raised in Los Angeles, Pico Union and Historic Filipinotown to be exact. As the first person in my family to go to college, I’m passionate about expanding opportunities and elevating the stories of communities like my own. I spent six years in education research and consulting, collaborating with philanthropic partners to translate data into effective practices and policies. I have a BA in Sociology from Pitzer College and an MEd in Higher Education from Harvard Graduate School of Education.
What I do: I support The LA Local’s fundraising efforts, focusing on managing our portfolio of active grants and identifying and pursuing new funding opportunities to sustain and grow our work.
Why LA: Because it’s the best city in the world – it has the best food, weather, parks, beaches, art, music, and people. It’s home and it’s given me the culture, community, and opportunities to grow into the person I am today.
