Mikaela Perez, Community Engagement Intern
My background: I was born and raised in the San Gabriel Valley and spent some years in Echo Park as a child. My community’s history always fascinated me, I always wanted to dig deeper. That’s when I knew I wanted to go into journalism. I attended Pasadena City College where I served as the Social Media Editor for the student run newspaper, the Courier. I transferred to Cal State Long Beach where I now serve as a Video Reporter for the student run newspaper, The Long Beach Current. Last summer I interned at LAist in the events department.
What I do: I help support our Community Engagement Director, Kevin Martinez.
Why LA: There’s no place like home! So many neighborhoods and cities with their own stories.
