Thomas Cordova, Visuals Editor, Long Beach Post
My background: I grew up in Roswell, New Mexico and followed my brother to Southern California after finishing art school in Colorado. I was trained as an old-school photojournalist, but I now do as much videography. I spent a number of years at daily newspapers, including the Press-Telegram, before joining the Post in 2018. I am also the president of the Greater Los Angeles’ chapter of the Press Photographers Association.
What I do: I am the Visual Editor for the Post, which means I get to create photos and videos that tell stories and elevate our coverage. I’ve been a visual journalist in Long Beach for over a decade now, and one of the most rewarding aspects is the work I do with youth and our interns.
Why Long Beach: I love Long Beach. I’ve worked here for 15 years, and it really feels like home. I never get tired of it. This isn’t LA — it’s Long Beach. It’s a big city but it feels like a small community.
