Sip & Sonder is back pouring coffee for a pair of pop-ups on Market Street in Inglewood this weekend, more than six months after closing the doors of its original location.
The shop’s owner has plans to bring a Sip & Sonder coffee shop back to Inglewood for good, targeting an opening early in 2027.
“To go from every day for the past almost nine years, to six months without has been a change,” owner Amanda-Jane Thomas said. “It’s really lovely to be back.”
Sip & Sonder opened its first location at 108 Market St. in 2017 and served up drip coffee and lattes for nine years. Then, the day after Christmas in 2025, the shop abruptly announced it was closing.
Thomas said steep rent was the primary reason for the decision. The shop had hoped to find a new home in Inglewood before it announced the Market Street closure, Thomas said, but those plans never came to fruition.
Sip & Sonder’s second location, in downtown LA, has remained open, but staff said they miss the old Inglewood brick-and-mortar shop and the community that grew up around it.
“We’ve seen people who worked on PhDs there, start a family, start a business,” said Alyson Pineda, a barista who worked at both locations. “I love working in downtown, but there’s something very homey and inviting about being in Inglewood.”
Here’s what Sip & Sonder is up to this weekend
On Friday, baristas poured free drinks for a small business summit hosted by La Create Space and Square at 300 Market St. They planned to open the latte cart to the public from 2-6 p.m. as fans trickled away from the World Cup quarterfinal match hosted a mile away at SoFi Stadium.
Sip & Sonder said in an Instagram post it plans to bring the cart back on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to the storefront at 300 S. Market St., with live DJs, drinks and workshops.
“We’re gonna celebrate,” Thomas said. “We’re thinking of this as the beginning of this journey back to Inglewood.”
