CicLAvia, the city’s car-free festival, is bringing back its “Heart of L.A.” route on Sunday, with 7.5 miles of open streets from downtown L.A. to Boyle Heights.
Streets along the route will be shut down to vehicle traffic from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for participants to walk, jog, run, bike, skate or simply enjoy the city through a car-free lens. The full route is available for viewing below:
Five hubs along the route will offer free family-friendly activities, water refilling stations, basic bike repair, first aid and more. There will also be a pedicab stop near each hub’s information booth where participants can catch a free ride from the different stations.
The two easternmost hubs are located in Boyle Heights, one alongside Mariachi Plaza and the other along the south side of Evergreen Cemetery. Three stations are located in Echo Park, Chinatown and Little Tokyo.
Sunday marks the 56th time CicLAvia has put on an event since it first launched in L.A. on Oct. 10, 2010, when around 100,000 people took to the streets to explore downtown L.A. and Boyle Heights. The “Heart of L.A.” route is based on the original festival.
The Beat team will be tabling outside of our newsroom’s office, located along the route at 2026 E. 1st Street. Stop by to chat, grab a paper or pitch a story.
