For the 13th year in a row, a Fourth of July celebration comes early to Boyle Heights through the annual Boyle Heights Concert & Fireworks Show, which will be held on Saturday, June 29th, at Hollenbeck Park.

A collaboration between the office of Councilman José Huízar and the local theater Casa 0101, the event is traditionally held the weekend before Independence Day.

Twenty-eight organizations including the Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council, NALEO, Clínica Romero, and Head Start will be tabling at the event, offering attendees an array of different local resources.

The Afro-Cuban band BombaChante will be the featured artist at this year’s concert, which will start at 5:00 PM. The firework show is set to begin once the sky turns dark.

Several public July 4th festivities throughout Los Angeles County allow for residents to not only enjoy the yearly holiday while saving money, but also provide a safer neighborhood environment during the celebration. Fireworks cause thousands of injuries and start over 1,600 fires every year. According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, fireworks can cause burns, loss of limbs and even death.
