Grab your two-wheeler, or a Metro Bike Share, and head to LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes this Saturday for a guided community bike tour highlighting the Eastside’s rich musical heritage.
The ride, a collaboration between the cultural center and LA Metro Bike Share, is a seven-mile trip to the landmarks and murals of Boyle Heights, tied to L.A.’s rich musical soundscape. That includes stops at Mariachi Plaza, Neighborhood Music School and The Paramount.
Exhibition curators from LA Plaza’s newest exhibit, “A Great Day in East L.A.: Celebrando the Eastside Sound,” will join the trip to share stories illuminating how music has shaped the neighborhood across generations. The exhibit is a multi-media display of the musical identity of East L.A. spanning 75 years and featuring over 450 artists, 500 artifacts and more.
According to event organizers, the route is well-suited for intermediate riders. Attendees can bring their own bicycle or one from Metro Bike Share’s fleet of wheels, available 24/7, year-round. A Metro spokesperson says the organization regularly coordinates similar events to inform residents about the Metro Bike Share program and other public transit services available.
The ride will start at LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes at 10 a.m. and end back at the same location by 1 p.m. If that sounds like your type of Friday, you can RSVP to attend for free.
Though the event is only one day, the exhibit is on display through August 23, 2026. You can also enjoy a Spotify playlist made by an exhibition curator highlighting Eastside sounds, featuring hits by Aztlan Underground, Hirth Martinez, Linda Ronstadt and more.
