Mexican regional band Eslabón Armado visited Bravo Medical Magnet High School in Boyle Heights on Wednesday as part of a Que Buena Radio tour across L.A. schools celebrating recent grads.
The band, composed of brothers Pedro and Brian Tovar along with Damian Pacheco and Ulises González, performed at the local school and gave away some tickets for its upcoming show at the Kia Forum in Inglewood on July 26.
Students cheered, sang along and handed members of the band a bouquet of flowers.
“The experience was fun, really enjoyable and energetic,” said Isaiah Rodriguez, a graduating senior at the school. “It was really nice of them to shout us out just days before we graduate.”
The Grammy-nominated band from Patterson, California, has grown in popularity in recent years.
Their hit, “Ella Baila Sola,” a collaboration with Mexican singer Peso Pluma, debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 and would reach the top 10 on its fourth week on the chart, the first regional Mexican song to do so. In its sixth week on the charts, it rose to number four, the highest position for any Mexican artist on the chart.
Ana Sandoval Guzman, a Bravo alumni and current staff member at the school’s Parent Center, said the experience was not only a dream come true as a major fan of the group, but also an important act for Latino students graduating to feel celebrated and represented.
“When we found out about it yesterday, you could hear screams of excitement down every hallway,” said Guzman. “It’s always so meaningful and heart-warming when Eastside students are celebrated, especially because these past four years have not been easy for many.”
