A woman was killed and four others were injured early Saturday morning when a fire broke out in their home on East Sheridan Street in Boyle Heights.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, crews responded at 4 a.m. and arrived to the one-story home on fire. Inside the house were 66-year-old grandmother Melinda Rodriguez, her husband, two of their children, and their 3-year-old grandson, according to CBS News.

Firefighters found her unconscious inside, according to the LAFD. She was quickly rushed to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Rodriguez’s 34-year-old daughter was in critical condition after suffering from burns and smoke inhalation. The other three were hospitalized in serious condition with possible smoke inhalation, says the LAFD.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and under investigation by arson investigators.
