Site of Aug. 23 homicide in Boyle Heights.

A person was fatally shot early Friday morning in Boyle Heights, according to a spokesperson from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). 

The victim was discovered by LAFD personnel responding to a 6:15 a.m. report of a person down at the intersection of Evergreen Avenue and Marengo Street. The victim, described by authorities only as a male Hispanic, was found with multiple gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene. 

It’s believed the shooting occurred sometime between 4 and 6 a.m. Friday, according to City News Service. The victim was later identified by the L.A. County Coroner’s Office as 37-year-old Jose Reyes Pizarro.

No additional information on the victim or suspect was available at the time of this report. 

The incident is the third fatal shooting reported in Boyle Heights this summer, including an Aug. 11 incident on the 500 block of North Evergreen Avenue and another on the 3000 block of Wabash Avenue on Aug. 3.
