A security guard was shot and killed during a robbery attempt at a marijuana dispensary in East Los Angeles early Monday morning, authorities said. 

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a report of a shooting at around 1:30 a.m. in the 6100 block of Whittier Boulevard, according to a spokesperson for the department. An address search as well as local TV news footage from the scene showed the location was a 24-hour marijuana dispensary.

Two suspects, both described only as male, entered and tried to rob the store. A shooting occurred during the attempt and the dispensary’s security guard was struck. 

Authorities said the suspects then left in a dark-colored SUV. The victim was found shot in the chest and pronounced dead at the scene, the spokesperson said. 

A search for the suspects was ongoing Monday morning.
