Authorities are investigating a hit-and-run collision that left one pedestrian dead in Boyle Heights last night.

Officers from the LAPD Hollenbeck Division were called at 8:05 p.m. to the intersection of Mission Road and Plaza del Sol, which is next to Felicitas and Gonzalo Mendez High School and Meto E Line’s Pico/Aliso station.

The pedestrian, described only as a male in his 70s, was found unconscious and not breathing, according to a spokesperson from the LAPD. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police spokesperson says a witness saw a black Nissan Altima driving south on Mission, striking the man and not stopping following the collision. The incident is still under investigation, and no additional information on a possible suspect was available at the time of this report. Anyone with information on the case is urged to call 877-LAPD-247.

The victim was later identified by the LA Coroner’s Office as 77-year-old Jose Dorado.

We will update this story as more information becomes available.
