A man approximately 60 years old drowned, and a 16-year-old boy believed to be his son was hospitalized in fair condition after firefighters pulled them from Lincoln Park Lake on Tuesday evening, according to authorities.

The Los Angeles Fire Department was called at about 6:35 p.m. to 3540 N. Mission Road in Lincoln Heights, officials said.

Initial reports indicate that the pair was a father and son, said Lyndsey Lantz, an LAFD spokesperson.

Lantz said paramedics performed CPR on the man, who was found unresponsive at the bottom of the lake. Both were taken to the hospital, where the teenager was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

It was not immediately clear why they were in the water.

According to ABC7, firefighters used “reach tools” equipped with hooks about 6 feet long to help find the boy’s father.

Lincoln Park Lake is located near Plaza de la Raza, which offers visual art, dance, music, and theatre courses. The lake is regularly stocked with fish and people are often seen fishing or walking around the lake.
