A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a car Wednesday night in Boyle Heights.

The collision occurred at 11:11 p.m. near Cesar Chavez Avenue and Mission Road, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department told Boyle Heights Beat. Officers learned that a vehicle traveling west on Cesar Chavez had struck a pedestrian who was standing in the roadway.

The Los Angeles Fire Department pronounced the victim dead at the scene. The driver, a 24-year-old man, remained at the site of the crash and rendered his information. 

The victim has only been identified as a man in his 70s, according to the L.A. County Medical Examiner.

The last pedestrian death in Boyle Heights was on April 20. A review of pedestrian deaths over the  last 5 years shows Boyle Heights ranks 11 among 114 neighborhoods throughout L.A., according to nonprofit news site Crosstown. Downtown L.A. topped the list.
