An 83-year-old pedestrian died after being struck by a car this weekend in Boyle Heights, police said.

The crash was reported around 7 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of 4th and Chicago streets, according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer David Cuellar. The intersection, which is near a school and church, has a traffic light and a marked crosswalk.

A driver in a white Honda was traveling eastbound on 4th Street when they struck a pedestrian at the intersection, Cuellar said.

Emergency responders transported the pedestrian to a local hospital where the victim later died from severe injuries. The driver stayed at the scene to cooperate with law enforcement, according to Cuellar. It is unknown if the driver was impaired.

Authorities have not released any information about the victim’s identity.
