A teenager is in custody after a 19-year-old was found shot dead in a car early Wednesday morning in Boyle Heights.
Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) were called to the 500 block of S. Grande Vista Ave. near Lanfranco Street at around 12:20 a.m. after a report of shots fired, an LAPD spokesperson said.
Responding officers found a man, who was originally described only as a 20-year-old and later confirmed to be 19, in a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was later identified by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office as Jason Ramirez.
A suspect, identified as a 17-year-old Hispanic male, fled the scene after being approached by officers. He was later found, arrested and taken into custody, the spokesperson said.
It is unclear if the shooting was gang-related, police said.
