Multiple schools across Los Angeles County have been closed temporarily due to various fires affecting Southern California.

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) shared closures across its jurisdiction Wednesday morning, including schools in the central and eastern part of LA Unified (North of Manchester Boulevard/Firestone Boulevard, East of 10th Avenue, West of Interstate 710, and South of Highway 134) that are experiencing hazardous air quality conditions. 

UPDATE: As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, the district shared that all LAUSD schools and offices would be closed Thursday, Jan. 9.

“The District will continue assessing the situation over the next 24 hours while preparing for the possibility of online learning on Friday, Jan. 10. A decision about Friday, Jan. 10 will be announced by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday,” the statement read.

The following schools in Boyle Heights will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 8:

  • First Street Elementary School
  • Belvedere Elementary School
  • Bravo Medical Magnet High School
  • Bridge Street Elementary School
  • Breed Street Elementary School
  • Evergreen Avenue Elementary School
  • Euclid Avenue Elementary School
  • Hollenbeck Middle School
  • Lorena Street Elementary School
  • Malabar Street Elementary School
  • Felicitas and Gonzalo Mendez High School
  • Murchison Street Elementary School
  • Robert Louis Stevenson Middle School
  • Roosevelt High School
  • Soto Street Elementary School
  • Sheridan Street Elementary School
  • Sunrise Elementary School
