After the immigration raids began last summer, we surveyed residents and learned that access to mental health and immigration legal services were critical needs. In response, we produced a mental health resource guide and hosted a panel featuring mental health experts. Over 200 people attended in person and online.

This resource zine is a continuation — primarily made for our immigrant community. From the restaurant workers, to the street vendors who feed our cravings or sell bouquets made with
love, from the students becoming first-generation graduates, to the business owners who serve our community, this guide is a gentle reminder that our city still cares for you.

This zine was also made for our neighbors who live in mixed-status households and are doing their best to keep their loved ones safe. This guide is a reminder that we see you.

Lastly, this zine would not have been possible without you. You let us know your needs, and we responded. Let’s remain in conversation.

Complete the survey and let us know your evolving concerns, needs and what you wish people knew about your neighborhood.

My background: I was born and raised in South Central LA, and am a proud alum of LAUSD schools. I earned my B.S. in Sociology and my M.Ed from Westminster College (SLC) and University of Utah, respectively. I returned to LA in 2018 and since then worked in non-profit educational organizations where I put my research on community engagement, critical race theory and youth empowerment into praxis.

What I do: I lead our community engagement efforts across the organization. From coordinating listening sessions to tabling at local events, to planning local candidate forums and surveying residents across the city, my goal is to build authentic relationships between our communities and newsrooms. I also support our LA Documenters program and our student journalism program with outreach and engagement.

Why LA?: LA is home, and with all its complexities, I truly believe it’s the best city in the world because of the local people that make this city run. And for that reason, we deserve our stories to be told accurately and holistically.
