This year’s East L.A. Classic at So-Fi Stadium will include a face-off between the junior varsity (JV) teams after all.

The addition, announced Thursday, came after swift community reaction and disappointment around the team’s apparent absence from the lineup at the professional arena.

The Beat reported on the wide mix of community reaction about the legendary game’s new location in Inglewood. Some were excited about the move to such a huge stadium, while others shared disappointed about it being so far from its roots in Boyle Heights and East L.A.

Among the complaints was the apparent omission of the JV teams from the schedule.

“What about JV, why aren’t they included?” one comment read on the initial announcement on Instagram. “Excluding JV is ridiculous. The JV players work just as hard as varsity, late nights, early mornings, holidays, etc, and deserve to play at the Sofi stadium as well,” another read.

In its announcement on Instagram Thursday, Roosevelt High School stated that it was able to add the JV game to the event’s lineup after working with SoFi Stadium.

The Beat reached out to LAUSD for comment but has yet to receive a response.

As it stands now, the East L.A. Classic will take place on Friday, Oct. 25, at SoFi Stadium.

JV football will take the field at 3:30 p.m. with girls’ flag football on at 6 ahead of the varsity game, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Roosevelt and Garfield, or online via Ticketmaster.
