The California Highway Patrol is investigating a collision that caused a Metro E Line train to derail early Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 9:20 a.m. by the intersection of S Rowan Avenue and E 3rd Street, near the Our Lady of Lourdes Church, disrupting service in East L.A. between Maravilla and Indiana stations.

Officials found the vehicle struck by the train with the driver trapped inside, according to a spokesperson from the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The driver was transported to hospital in unknown condition.

The cause of the crash is still unclear, the spokesperson said.

Although the vehicle impact was strong enough to knock the front car off the westbound tracks, the train remained upright as it crossed over the center median.
By 11:35 a.m., the train had been repositioned onto the tracks and, according to a Metro agent at the scene, received a visual inspection.

E Line trains resumed regular service shortly before 12:45 p.m., according to LA Metro rider alerts on X.
