Happenings in the Heights

Thursday, July 31

  • Children’s Workshop: Got kids? Bring them to Malabar or Stevenson libraries to connect and make friends while building with blocks and tiles. Workshops start 4 p.m.
  • Night Market: El Rodeo Night Market is back at El Mercadito, featuring various local vendors, resources and more to enjoy. Includes school supply drive. 6 p.m. to midnight. 
  • Punk Night: Drop by The Paramount to celebrate 30 years of Shelter’s album “Mantra,” with Berthold City and Invocation also taking the stage. $26 tickets. Doors open 7 p.m.
  • Beat Down Benefit: First Street Pool Hall is hosting a benefit event for families affected by recent ICE raids in L.A. Expect music, vendors, wrestling matches and more. $5 at the door.

Friday, August 1

  • Art Mercado: LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes is hosting an art market featuring local vendors, community workshops and support for those affected by immigration enforcement raids across L.A. RSVP for free to attend, donations welcome at the door. 3 to 9 p.m.
  • Mexican Art Show: A group of artists from Tijuana are heading to Esquina Bicycle Shop for an art exhibit bridging boundaries. Opening starts 6 p.m., on display through Aug. 31. 
  • Ska Night: Don Quixote’s hosting Mafia Rusa, Gabriela Penka, Waraperos and more groups for an 18+ night of hard ska. $15 tickets. Doors open 7:30 p.m.
  • Norteño Night: Los Mas Poderosos are dropping by Eastside Luv to bring you a night of Norteño hits. Free entry from 8 to 10 p.m. Happy Hour, $10 after. 

Saturday, August 2

  • Environmental Effort: Join North East Trees at Ascot Hills Park for a guided seed collection walk and transplanting effort. Includes free milkweed giveaway. 9 a.m. to noon.
