¡Hola Boyle Heights! It’s Alex back to share the latest happening in our neighborhood.
News por y para la comunidad

You’ve likely been following our coverage of East L.A.’s push for cityhood, especially the work of our reporter Andrew Lopez, who’s been on the story since early 2024. And there’s a big update.
After months of delay, the L.A. County CEO’s office released its long-awaited fiscal analysis on whether East L.A. could stand on its own as a city or special district. The bottom line? It still doesn’t pencil out. The report published Monday found that East L.A., a majority-Latino community of nearly 120,000 people, remains fiscally unviable as a city. Similar efforts to incorporate the neighborhood, with the latest in 2012, reached the same conclusion.
So what now? The county is recommending a Municipal Advisory Committee (MAC) instead – a group that would represent East L.A. interests and serve as a bridge to the Board of Supervisors.
You can read more about the report on our website, and I want to hear from you. Just hit reply and let me know what you think about the push for East L.A. representation – it’ll help us report on the issue, and it’s a chance to make your voice heard.
