Hundreds of families braved cold temperatures and rain to line up and camp out Friday night for Saturday’s 31st annual Miracle on First Street, the inner city’s largest toy giveaway.

The Hollenbeck Youth Center parking lot was transformed into a winter wonderland early Saturday morning, with snowmen, Christmas trees and live music performances. The line wrapped around city blocks as families waited their turn to receive one of 10,000 toys, donated by celebrities.

For many of the children, it is the only gift they will receive this holiday season.

Among those participating in the toy giveaway were actors Tom Arnold and Dax Shepard, former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Los Angeles Police Chief Charles Beck and mayoral candidate Wendy Greuel.

The event is hosted each year by the Inner City Games Los Angeles, the Hollenbeck Police Business Council and the youth center.
