With only a month before the November election, Kevin de León and Ysabel Jurado have been hard at work trying to secure local votes in the race to represent Council District 14.
As of Sept. 21, incumbent Councilmember De León has raised $736,560 according to campaign finance totals from the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission.
Tenants rights attorney Ysabel Jurado has raised $503,825.
According to LAist, independent groups have spent $77,664 to support De León and $30,858 to oppose him, while no independent groups have spent money to support or oppose Jurado.
De León has held a fundraising lead throughout the race, out-raising Jurado in The Beat’s previous review of Ethics Commission Data through June 30 ($292,461 to $123,808) as well as during the primary election ($358,649 to $250,068).
In initial ballot counts following the primary election, De León had an early lead in votes, but Jurado pulled ahead with a total of 8,618 votes to the incumbent’s 8,220 votes. The two came out on top among a total of eight candidates.
The two candidates are set to face off Saturday in Boyle Heights at a forum hosted by The Beat and Proyecto Pastoral. You can learn more here.
