With only a week before the November election, Kevin de León and Ysabel Jurado have been hard at work trying to secure local votes in the race to represent Council District 14, an area that encompasses downtown L.A., Boyle Heights, Lincoln Heights, El Sereno and other Northeast L.A. neighborhoods.
As of Oct. 19, De León has raised $774,807.92 according to campaign finance totals from the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission. Jurado has raised $587,965.53.
De León has held an overall fundraising lead throughout the race, out-raising Jurado through Sept. 21, $736,560 to $503,825, and in The Beat’s first review of data through June 30 ($292,461 to $124,808). The incumbent had also outraised Jurado during the primary election ($358,649 to $250,068).
Though De León’s lead over Jurado amounts to more than $180,000, the latest campaign fundraising totals by the L.A. City Ethics Commission show Jurado raised more money than the incumbent councilmember during this reporting period.
From Aug. 22 to Oct. 19, Jurado received $84,140.65, more than double the $39,551 raised by De León’s campaign.
Getting ready to vote:
Many in-person vote centers opened Saturday in Los Angeles and will be operational through Nov. 5. People can vote in person or drop off their ballot at local centers which can be found here. In California, eligible voters who haven’t yet registered can visit a center and sign up with conditional registration to cast a ballot up until Election Day.
In case you haven’t already, Tuesday, Oct. 29, is the last day to request a replacement mail-in ballot. This option is suitable for those who might’ve made a mistake on the one you received in the mail. You can request one by filing an application here. The application can only be filed by the registered voter and may be returned to your county elections official.
Nov. 5 is the last day you can turn in your mail-in ballot directly at a vote center in L.A. County. No postage is required if you’re sending it in by mail, and as long as it’s postmarked by Election Day and received within 7 days, it will be processed, verified and counted.
