Masks and air purifiers have become critical resources as smoke from the Boyle Heights warehouse fire continues to affect the Eastside.
Smoke relief centers are available for people looking to leave their homes for a break from the bad air. A variety of organizations are also offering free masks for people who are staying in the area, and you can support distribution with donations or by volunteering.
How to get free air purifiers and masks
Call 211 to request free masks and air purifiers if you live in East LA or other parts of LA County
Dial 311 if you live in the city of LA for direct support, information and to ask about accessing masks or air purifiers.
Qualifying Eastside residents can apply for free in-home air purifiers via the South Coast Air Quality Management District. The residential air filtration program is open to residents of Boyle Heights, East Los Angeles, the eastern Coachella Valley and parts of Commerce. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Boyle Heights: Councilmember Ysabel Jurado’s office is providing air purifiers to impacted residents. Residents can apply here: bit.ly/3QElVQy
Unincorporated East LA: Residents living in the 90022 and 90063 ZIP codes can contact Supervisor Hilda Solis’ East LA office: (323) 881-4601 (If they do not answer, please leave a voicemail.)
LA Council District 1: Free air purifiers are available while supplies last for Council District 1 residents. Neighborhoods in the district include Highland Park, Glassell Park, Lincoln Heights, Echo Park, Westlake, Koreatown and Chinatown.

Coyotl Macehualli x Regenerative Collective: Community members are building and distributing Corsi–Rosenthal box air purifiers for people affected by the fire. They are distributed to residents in the ZIP codes: 90031, 90032, 90033, 90023, 90063 and unincorporated areas within 2 miles of the site. Fill out this form to apply for one.
Union Pacific residents: A resource fair will be held 1-6 p.m. Monday at Our Lady of Victory Church, 1317 S. Herbert Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90023, to provide air purifiers and access to Los Angeles County services for Union Pacific residents impacted by the Boyle fire. Air purifiers will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents must provide proof of address verification.
