A person was found dead after being struck by a Union Pacific train in Boyle Heights on Sunday afternoon, officials said. This marks the second pedestrian fatality involving a train in the neighborhood within a week.

Personnel with the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), Los Angeles Police Department and Union Pacific responded to the 3200 block of E. Union Pacific Avenue at around 2 p.m. after a report of an individual being struck down by the train, according to a LAFD spokesperson.

Rail activities in the area were temporarily shut down for the investigation.

The unidentified pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unclear what the victim was doing in the area. No further injuries were reported, the spokesperson said.

Last week, another individual was found dead after being struck by a Metrolink train Thursday morning on the 700 block of N. Mission Road.
