The June 2 primary election is coming up quickly. Ballots for the primary are already arriving by mail, and ballot drop boxes are open.

In addition to voting for governor and other state and county offices, Inglewood voters will get to cast ballots for an initiative to allow firework sales. Here’s what to know about how and where to vote.

Need to register?

The last day to register or update your registration address is May 18. Same-day registration is also available in person at county election offices and vote centers, or you can register at lavote.gov

Voting by mail?

You can mail off your ballot as soon as possible. The Secretary of State’s Office recommends voters who want to mail their ballots do so at least a week before the June 2 election day.

You can also return that ballot at one of the many drop boxes across LA County. Find a ballot drop box here

My background: I spent my early years in downtown Los Angeles and lived the last decade between Pico Union and University Park. Before journalism, I spent stints as an after-school tutor and a housing social worker. I’ve covered immigration, religion, housing, local government and a little bit of everything else for outlets in Los Angeles and beyond.

What I do: I keep an eye on local institutions — like city governments, police departments and school boards — and an ear to the ground for the good, the bad and the weird things going on in South LA and Inglewood. I tell you what I find out on our website, in our newsletter and on social media.

Why LA?: This place is home. I love the people, the cultures, the hills and the Pacific Ocean.
