Authorities are investigating a hit-and-run that took place early this morning that left one pedestrian dead on the 6th Street Bridge in Boyle Heights.

Officers from the LAPD Hollenbeck Division were called to the 6th Street Bridge at around 2:30 a.m. following a report of the incident.

The pedestrian, described as a 32-year-old Hispanic male, was found lying on the street, according to a spokesperson from the LAPD.

The spokesperson says witnesses described a vehicle traveling west from Boyle Heights towards DTLA when it struck the pedestrian crossing the road. The driver did not stop to render aid to the victim and fled. First responders declared the victim dead at the scene, the spokesperson said.

The incident is still under investigation, and no other information about the victim, suspect, or vehicle involved was available at the time of this report.

This is the second fatal hit-and-run reported this week, including a Tuesday night incident that killed 77-year-old Jose Dorado.

Edwin Perez is an 11th grader at Méndez High School and part of the 2023-24 cohort of Boyle Heights Beat students.
